Vienna Lit

Vienna Lit is an up and coming literary society whose aims are to both increase the popularity of English language literature in Austria and to bring to Vienna the atmosphere of the British literature scene, with its vitality and diversity of current literary genres.  At the heart of our work is the spoken word or “live literature”, in other words literature which exists not only on paper but is also spoken aloud, spoken about, staged and engaged in during readings, performances, poetry slams etc., and which can turn a literary evening into a rousing event.

In addition to the many smaller literary events organised by Vienna Lit in various locations in Vienna throughout the year (readings, workshops, competitions, book groups, projects with and in schools, authors’ tours etc.), the organisation and realisation of the Vienna Lit Festival is our main focus. It took place for the first time in autumn 2006 and again successfully in spring 2008.
